SIGRÚN ÓLAFSDÓTTIR‘s objects and sculptures all speak of one thing:
the awareness of the fragility of any equilibrium, endangered at any moment by a breath of wind, an abrupt movement, a too violent word, a bold thought, a volcanic eruption, ….
Her art captures not only the intersection of stability to fragility, the moment of transition from one position to another – she invents objects that make an impossible balance possible and let them dance in the wind.
What looks like magic and seems to suspend gravity is actually a sophisticated combination of diverse materials, such as wood, steel, lead, aluminium, rubber, latex, ink and paper, crystallised in elaborate experiments.
She realises meter-high sculptures, installations, the design of bridges, buildings and large squares. And at the same time light and handy objects.
Her drawings and silkscreens are works of art in their own right.
