Renaldo Bern was born in Worms in 1992. He lives as a freelance artist in Berlin.

As a member of the Sinti minority, he feels particularly connected to the theme of localisation. In a culture that has practised creating home in foreign land, sometimes voluntarily, sometimes involuntarily, for centuries, one talent has proved particularly valuable: Attention. Attention to everything: shallow spots in a river, changing fauna and flora, labyrinthine alleyways in an old town or residential towers made of concrete, glass and steel, screwed into the clouds, casting long shadows in modern cities.

But also attention to the unspoken, small gestures and the finest nuances in tonality.

Renaldo is such a fine observer.

He seems to hold what he sees and records carefully in his hands like threads. He colours them in the tones of sunrise and sunset, adding the blue of a summer sky, some leaf green, carbon black and sometimes something metallic.

His paintings appear to be woven from fine cloth. Every time you look at them again, a facet, a detail or a context that you hadn't noticed before, a new thought, a different mood, emerges.

You want to wrap yourself up in it, dream and philosophise.

Of course, he has also made the technique of painting his own through observation, contemplation and patient experimentation.
